چکیده

In this paper, we propose a dynamic multicasting policy based on the phased proxy caching to reduce the network bandwidth from the central server to the clients. In the proposed multicasting policy, for an object, a multicasting channel is allocated only if there are more than two active unicast streams for that object. So, the length of a multicasting window varies with the arrival rate of that object and moreover, proxy caching is applied to the multicasting policy by caching objects step by step starting from the initial portion of the objects; for each object, caching is done either partially or fully depending on the streams’arrival rate.

Proxy Caching for Video on Demand Systems in Multicasting Networks

Streaming high quality videos consumes a significant amount of network resources. Researchers proposed prefix caching schemes to reduce bandwidth usage costs in streaming videos. In this paper, we introduce a wide-scale cost model for proxy caching that takes bandwidth consumption into consideration over an entire network for different multicasting tree topologies. The new cost model quantifies...

A Video Replacement Policy based on Revenue to Cost Ratio in a Multicast TY-Anytime System

This paper analyzes a tree hierarchical network architecture employing video caching and multicasting capacity to support a broadband video service called TV-Anytime. The proxy servers are located close to customers and are able to store the most popular videos in an adaptive way. Due to a large uncertainty in the future demands for videos, we propose an on-line video replacement policy based o...

Caching Neighborhood Protocol: a Foundation for Building Dynamic Caching Hierarchies with WWW Proxy Servers

In this paper, we propose a Caching Neighborhood Protocol (CNP) that describes an infrastructure upon which proxy servers can build dynamic caching hierarchies. Compared to the conventional schemes based on static caching hierarchies where proxy servers can only communicate with each other following predefined path configurations, the proposed dynamic scheme permits flexible communications amon...

Streaming Media Caching Model Based on Knapsack Problem

The dominant traffic on the Internet has changed from text and graphics based Web content to more information-rich streaming media content, such as audio and video. With the dramatic increase of network bandwidth and the advancement of technologies on media authoring, encoding, and distribution, media traffic on the Internet has increased explosively and now accounts for the majority of traffic...

A Proxy-Based Approach for Dynamic Content Acceleration on the WWW

Various dynamic content caching approaches have been proposed to address the performance and scalability problems faced by many Web sites that utilize dynamic content generation applications. Proxy-based caching approaches store content at various locations outside the site infrastructure and can improve Web site performance by reducing content generation delays, firewall processing delays, and...
